watched the first two episodes of murderbot. i think it's very fun, and i will definitely continue to watch it, but i'm not feeling very trusted by the creative team. that first scene felt so unnecessary to me, like we had to be told that humans might be dicks to constructs, or that the governor module is Bad Actually, which all could have happened during the immediate next scene and maybe sprinkled in a bit through that first interaction with the presaux crew. imagine, instead, that we had opened with the whole 'refurbished model' 'what is that piece of crap' 'oh that's me' bit. i feel like that would be more on brand and a little bit less 'as you know, bob'. the company reps literally explain the governor module in that scene already. also why are we getting very telling shots of the deltfall hab at the end of the second episode?? idk. i know that this show was going to have a hard time impressing me to begin with, but i'm very willing to be excited by the process of adaptation! adaptations are cool! they're not one-to-one and they're not supposed to be! but i do wish that these creators trusted their audience a bit more, and maybe had a little bit more patience.

Happy "Max Headroom Incident" Day to all who celebrate.

On November 22, 1987 television signals in Chicago were interrupted twice by an unknown person in a Max Headroom mask.

The first time, WGN Channel 9's 9 PM news was interrupted for about 17 seconds before WGN's engineers got control of their signal back.

The second time, it was WTTW Channel 11's turn. The PBS station's airing of the classic Doctor Who episode The Horror of Fang Rock was interrupted with the clip above.

Those responsible were never caught and has since become a legendary moment in piracy/hacking.

Before streaming and scrolling there was broadcast television—shared signals sent through the air for anyone with an antenna to catch. But when something’s that open, it’s also open to hijacking. In part one of our two-part series, we dig into one of the most bizarre and legendary cases of broadcast piracy: the Max Headroom Incident. On November 22, 1987, two Chicago TV stations were interrupted by a strange figure in a Max Headroom mask, delivering surreal, unsettling messages in an approximately 90-second broadcast that has baffled and fascinated for nearly four decades. I FINISHED HER DESIGN RAHHH anyways I for the life of me cannot think of a name for her but here’s her info

I may (highly unlikely) make a mini comic explaining her backstory before she was forsaken, but the main gist is that her parents died during the Tubers93 hacking incident (which looks different in the forsaken universe because I DO NOT want to have an oc associated with such disgusting behaviour) and she was the last one rescued from the “Meepcity 4” pocket dimension.

Soon after, she ran away before she could be put in foster care/an orphanage and joined a group of kids who were also runaways. She was decently happy for those years… but the guilt and horror of her parent’s death still weighed heavy on her. She swore she could’ve done something to save them that day, despite what everyone tells her.

One day whilst sparring with a somebody she knew, they accidentally struck her head, giving her a fatal brain injury. The last thing she remembers before being forsaken was that person apologising. She doesn’t harbour any resentment to them, but to herself for letting her guard down.

Other things: I’m giving her ptsd because I’m a horrible person and I hate her (affectionate)

she (and Guest 1337) are the only people who don’t hate 007n7, one of the reasons I made her was to be nice to 7n7 because the writers hate him for no reason.

The purple crystals growing out of her back were given to her by The Specter as a reminder of her own crushing guilt.

Finally, her age is undefined, but she is a minor. Oh and also she uses She/Her

🪐Saturn: Who’s keeping a secret in your WIP? What is it?

Zel is keeping secrets that are spoilers. So are a number of people around her, though not Anni, who really wants to know what the secret is (it's not about her, I'll say that much).

Dez is keeping secrets that are about how his citizenship adventure is going. He's discovered that it's possible none of the islanders even want him to be there, and he fully believes that telling Anni about it means that she will come and whisk him back home. He also generally operates under the assumption that what everyone else doesn't know won't hurt them, so I suspect he's always keeping a lot of secrets.

Anni, meanwhile, is trying to keep a lid on the fact that she wishes she hadn't let Dez skip solstice, but she can't really take it back at this point.

Also, because I should talk about them more: Mizzat and Imjen are also in a constant state of keeping secrets, such as the fact that Mizzat can pick locks and occasionally "borrows" things from other professors' offices, and Imjen was the one who hacked every netsite in the comp sci department at Mizzat's university, a still-unsolved prank.
